The last three decades have seen exciting developments in the
interaction between
Number Theory and Harmonic Analysis,
for example
Bourgain's use of selectors to treat Bohr's problem on the sup norm of
sums of sinuses with integral frequencies ;
Vaaler's treatment of Fourier transforms of entire functions
to improve on the Montgomery Vaughan version
of Hilbert's inequality ;
Green and Tao's use of harmonic analysis on finite abelian groups and
of
ergodic means to prove the long standing question of primes in
arithmetic progression.
The aim of this conference is to bring together mathematicians
interested in
such themes
and to encourage work ...
in the many problems still open.
