Coming to Lille:

From Paris-Orly Airport to Paris-Gare du Nord (<90mn)
Take the subway "Orlyval", get off at Antony. Then take the metro RER-Line B to Gare du Nord (alternative solution: take a bus "Orlybus" to Paris, get off at "Denfert-Rochereau" in Paris and then
take the metro RER-Line B to Gare du Nord).

From Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport to Paris-Gare du Nord (<45mn)
Take the metro RER-Line B to Gare du Nord.

From Paris-Gare du Nord to Lille (1h)
Take a train Paris-Lille. There are two stations in Lille: Gare Lille-Flandres and Gare Lille-Europe. Both are convenient. Almost all trains are TGV's (Très Grande Vitesse): they will take you to Lille in one hour. TGV's run every hour or so. The fare ranges from 30 Euros to 50 Euros.

From Roissy-Charles de Gaulle airport directly to Lille (50mn)
There is also a TGV line going directly from Roissy airport to Lille. This is shorter and easier, but there are fewer trains than from Paris-Gare du Nord.

From Brussels to Lille (<1h30)
There are two possible airports : Bruxelles airport and Charleroi-Bruxelles South airport. There are regular shuttles from the Brussels airport to the central railway station (Bruxelles Midi/Brussel Zuid). Then take a train to Lille. There are direct trains from Charleroi to Lille.

From London to Lille (<1h30)
There is a direct connection with Eurostar from London to Lille.

In some cases you can buy your train tickets in advance on the website (in english) of the french railway company SNCF. Here is a link to the English webpage of the SNCF, the french railway company, and the Belgian one

Going to the university Lille 1 ( about 20 minutes):

If you are arriving at the train station Lille Flandres: take line 1of the metro in the direction "4 Cantons". Stop at "Cité Scientifique". You are in the middle of the campus. The price of a metro ticket is around 1.20 Euro. There are automatic selling machines in each metro station.

If you are arriving at the station Lille Europe: the simplest way is to catch the metro at the train station Lille Flandres and then to proceed as above. Go out of the Lille Europe station following the signs "Gare Lille Flandres''. You are coming out on a big street which is becoming a bridge. Follow the bridge in the direction of the big shopping center Euralille. You can enter the metro here, in front of the shopping center.

Going to the Mathematics building M2 from the metro station "Cité Scientifique" (less than 5 minutes):

Go along the metro line in the direction of the next stop ("4 Cantons") and going towards a big red round building (the main library). You will see on your left a building bith a big radio aerial on top. This is the Mathematics building M1 (teaching building). The mathematics building M2 is just behind.

You will find here in "plan d'acces" some maps of the metro, of the campus, of the town Villeneuve d'Ascq and of Lille city center.
