Semiclassical orthogonal polynomials: q-Laguerre and
little q-Laguerre
In this talk we explain how to get discrete equations for the
recurrence coefficients of the generalized q-Laguerre and little
q-Laguerre OPs. These discrete equations can be reduced to the discrete
Painleve equations in particular cases. This is a joint work with C.

Minimal surfaces in the 3-sphere and meromorphic connections
Compact minimal surfaces in the 3-sphere can be constructed via their associated family of flat connections depending rationally on a spectral parameter λ in
C*. Under certain assumptions I show that this family is gauge equivalent to a family of meromorphic connections via a λ-dependent gauge which extends to 0 in
C. As a consequence, one can construct a minimal surface out of a family of meromorphic connections on the Riemann surface which satisfy a reality condition. In the end, I will discuss special examples like the Lawson surfaces which correspond to families of Fuchsian systems.

Challenges and curiosities of Painlevé equations
After a pedagogical introduction into the theory of Painlevé
equations, I will discuss conjectural relation of Painlevé transcendents
and the special functions of conformal field theory called Virasoro
conformal blocks. In particular, I will explain how this relation allows
to obtain the general solution of Painlevé VI, V and III in the form of
explicit combinatorial series over Young diagrams.

It has been known for almost 30 years that the canards values of the forced Van der Pol equation admit a certain formal series as asymptotic expansion. It had been shown that this series is Gevrey of order 1 and that it is 1-summable. In work in progress with A. Fruchard and E. Matzinger, we prove that this series is resurgent (more precisely, its formal Borel transform converges and the resulting function can be continued analytically along any path avoiding 4m/3, m integer). The proof is based on a global study of the solutions of Van der Pol's equation in the complex domain.

Variational approach to the irreducibility of order two non linear differential equations (with Guy Casale)
In his work on the first Painlevé equation, Guy Casale gave a characterization of the reducibility of non linear differential equations using Malgrange pseudogroup methods and classifications of E. Cartan. In our joint work, we propose an irreducibility criterion for second order non linear differential equations, based on the dimension of their Malgrange pseudogroup. We give a method to measure lower bounds on this dimension and apply this to the irreducibility of a Painlevé II equation.
