The training of mathematicians and physicists at the graduate and post-graduate level is an important aspect of the activities of CEMPI. The Center provides a stimulating international environment for master's and PhD students, as well as for post-doctoral researchers. Details of the application procedures for CEMPI funding are provided below.

Postdoctoral Fellowships at Laboratoire Paul Painlevé

CEMPI has at least two opening for one-year (possibly renewable) postdoctoral research position, starting between September 1st 2022 and January 1st 2023. Priority (for one of the positions) will be given to candidates working on research topics associated with Painlevé-CEMPI-PhLAM 2022 Thematic Semester (Geometry and Topology). Applications in other fields of CEMPI research are also welcome and strongly encouraged. CEMPI's research project is available HERE.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. prior to the start of the contract. Selection will be based on the scientific excellence of the candidate and on the quality of the proposed research project.

Beyond progressing on their own research, candidates are expected to take an active part in the activities of the CEMPI and of its partner laboratories, and in particular in the annual Thematic Semester of CEMPI. No teaching duties are imposed on the successful candidate and mastery of the French language is not a requirement. Candidates are strongly encouraged to contact the researchers of the two CEMPI partner laboratories (Lab. Paul Painlevé and PhLAM) active in their field, prior to submitting their application, in order to ensure their research project is in line with the CEMPI research program. The research project elaborated by the applicant with at least one member of the CEMPI will be an important point in the evaluation of the applications.

Salary

The net pay (after the deduction of social contributions, including health coverage and pension contributions, but not income taxes) is approximately 2,400 euros/month.

- A motivation letter (one page maximum), with the format: your_name-motivation-letter.pdf
- A detailed CV describing the candidate's undergraduate and graduate studies with the format: your_name-CV.pdf
- A research project while at the CEMPI (two pages maximum), with the format: your_name-research-statement.pdf

Interdisciplinary Postdoctoral Fellowship

CEMPI has one opening for one-year (possibly renewable) postdoctoral interdisplinary research position, starting between September 1st 2022 and January 1st 2023. The recruited postdoc will have to work with (at least) one mathematician from the Paul Painlevé lab (LPP) and (at least) one physicist from the Laboratory PhLAM. Before submiting their application, applicants are therefore requested to contact a researcher from at least one of the two partner laboratories (LPP and PhLAM) depending on their profile, who will help them to develop a coherent research project in line with the objective of this postdoc. Scientific themes where PhLAM and LPP interact include, among others: quantum optics/quantum information, solitons gases, study of molecular dynamics in living cells, nonlinear Schrodinger equation in the context of nonlinear optics or Bose-Einstein condensables, topological matter. CEMPI's research project is available HERE.
Applicants should hold a Ph.D. prior to the start of the contract. Selection will be based on the scientific excellence of the candidate and on the quality of the proposed research project, and in particular on the fact that it concerns research between LPP and PhLAM.
